The German Navy has completed a successful dual operational firing trial featuring Israel Aerospace Industries’ (IAI) Naval Long-Range Artillery (LORA) precision ballistic weapon system as part of its overarching Operational Experimentation (OPEX) initiative. Embarked aboard an operational German naval vessel equipped with a specialized deck-mounted launcher and a modular command-and-control trailer, the surface-to-surface weapon system executed two distinct firing scenarios, demonstrating flawless end-to-end mission capabilities from trajectory launch and mid-course navigation through to terminal impact with pinpoint accuracy. Launched to evaluate advanced sea-to-shore and sea-to-sea deep-strike solutions under realistic sea conditions, OPEX serves as the primary technical and tactical testbed for the German Navy as it actively reshapes its inventory to address evolving high-intensity threat environments and establish operational foundations for its long-term ‘Marine 2035 and Beyond’ force structure strategy.

The combat-proven Naval LORA is a highly survivable, single-stage solid-propellant ballistic system designed to deliver immediate, lethal long-range strike capabilities across contested operational theaters while occupying a remarkably compact deck footprint. Capable of operating in all weather conditions without visibility constraints, the 1,600 kg, 5.2 m long missile features an operational engagement envelope spanning from 90 km to 430 km and utilizes a shaped trajectory flight profile reaching supersonic velocities to bypass modern integrated air and missile defense networks. Controlled via all-electric drives and guided by an integrated GPS/INS navigation package, the system achieves an exceptionally tight circular error probable (CEP) of 10 m across its maximum effective range, delivering high-explosive payloads capable of penetrating fortified targets, enemy command posts, tactical surface-to-surface missile units, air bases, and critical military infrastructure.

This significant milestone is underscored by the operational live-fire exercise (OPEX) of the LORA system, one of the world’s most advanced and combat-proven ballistic missile systems.”

The successful trial of the LORA missile, launched from a naval vessel and striking its target with exceptional precision, took place overnight in Germany – the country where the world’s first ballistic missile was developed.This trial demonstrates Israel’s technological strength and the unique cooperation between Israel and Germany. It marks another significant achievement alongside the deployment of the Arrow 3 system on German soil, further strengthening Germany’s defense and deterrence capabilities and deepening the strategic partnership between our two countries.”

Engineered for rapid reaction and low operational overhead, the LORA system can transition from command decision to target impact within ten minutes, launching from unprepared or mobile naval positions with minimal command-to-target latency. Encased in a factory-sealed canister requiring no preventive maintenance throughout its operational lifecycle as a “wooden round,” the weapon system relies entirely on solid-state electronics, making it uniquely suited for rapid integration onto flatbed land trucks or small-deck maritime platforms. The successful integration and trial execution highlight IAI’s expanding portfolio of strategic offense and defense technologies—which includes the combat-proven Arrow 2 and Arrow 3 anti-ballistic missile interceptors—while providing Germany with a deployable, high-precision capability to engage both fixed and transportable high-value targets deep within anti-access/area-denial (A2/AD) maritime environments.
