Thales today announced that DND has awarded the joint venture the Directorate Land Command Systems Program Management Software Engineering Facility (DSEF) software systems engineering contract for Land C4ISR. The initial term of the contract is for five years through to April 2028 and includes five additional one-year options allowing Canada to extend it. The contract is valued at up to $136 million CAD. As a contractual joint venture, the three companies will combine their respective expertise in the Canadian and international defence C4ISR domain to offer specialized software development and integration solutions to the Canadian Army. The work will include tasks related to software development and engineering of Land C4ISR systems and professional services to support the Director Land Command Systems Program Management (DLCSPM) – not only with the sustainment of the LC4ISR specialized software, but also in developing future evolutions of applications that will contribute to Canadian defence policy.
“KWESST is incredibly excited to be working with Thales and Modis on Canada this contract. The two companies – respectively – are very highly regarded in the Canadian defence community. Specifically, for KWESST, the win represents an important validating milestone as part of KWESST’s growth strategy as a land tactical digitization development and integration house. More specifically, the company is humbled to be chosen as the Canadian Army’s central provider of Indirect Fire control software, Artillery Fire control software, and Sniper ballistics control software development and support services. KWESST is now a vital force development partner for the Canadian Army as the latter looks to implement its Digital Modernization Strategy.” David Luxton, Executive Chairman, KWESST Micro Systems
“The opportunity to further enable the Army’s digital transformation in close collaboration with KWESST and Modis Canada as our partners is one Thales welcomes. Together, we can innovate and sustain C4ISR solutions that the Army can trust, both in its response to a changing world and in pursuit of Canada’s defence policy. It’s also an opportunity for us to further leverage Thales’ expertise in Land command & control as well as in collaborative combat systems through COBALT Mission Backbone: an interconnected system of systems designed to meet the Canadian Armed Forces’ sovereign mission needs from the core to the far edge – now and into the future.” Ian Krepps, Vice-President, Business Development & Growth, Thales Canada
“Modis Canada Inc. is excited to enter into this joint venture partnership with two world class companies as we bolster our offerings to the Canadian Department of National Defence. In securing this contract, Modis Canada, Thales and KWESST have been able to combine our respective expertise in proposing a robust offering to Canada. We look forward to providing digital modernization services in C4ISR and Software Development and continue to forge a positive working relationship with Thales and KWESST going forward.” Brian Rogic, Sales Director for Modis Canada Inc.
