Textron Systems has unveiled its prototype of a new armed reconnaissance vehicle, named the Cottonmouth, designed for the U.S. Marine Corps legacy Light Armored Vehicle-25 (LAV-25) replacement competition. Cottonmouth Advanced Reconnaissance Vehicle (ARV) that was equipped with Kongsberg RS4-J remote weapon station. LAV-25 is an eight-wheeled amphibious armored reconnaissance vehicle built by General Dynamics Land Systems and has been in use since the 1980s. Developed from the (Armoured Vehicle General Purpose) family built by General Dynamics Land Systems.

The Office of Naval Research (ONR) has announced that it sponsoring research to develop the next-generation Armored Reconnaissance Vehicle (ARV), in preparation to replace current fleet of ageing combat vehicles. The future ARV will provide transformational sensor, communications and combat capabilities to collect and communicate information, while integrating robotics and artificial intelligence technologies in manned-unmanned teams. Additionally, ARV will provide the warfighter with a survivable, mobile, networked and lethal platform to dominate the battle space.
