During ILA Berlin 2026, Safran Electronics & Defense Germany announces that it has received its largest order from the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) for more than 1,000 JIM Compact multifunction infrared binoculars. The order, aimed at strengthening the capabilities of the German Infantry, falls within the framework agreement signed in December 2024 and approved by the German Bundestag’s Budget Committee. The JIM Compact is a combat-proven multifunction observation system that enhances soldiers’ ability to detect, identify, and locate targets in all weather and light conditions. Its versatility and operational performance have made it a key capability for modern armed forces. Since 2022, nearly 6,000 systems have been delivered to NATO countries, and its production capacity has tripled between 2022 and 2026 to meet rapidly growing operational demand.
“With this major order, we are further deepening our partnership with the Bundeswehr through the JIM Compact, by not only delivering a solution but by also expanding local maintenance support”, said Marzell Schiller, CEO of Safran Electronics & Defense Germany. “The JIM Compact is a key building block of the augmented soldier, providing dismounted troops with enhanced observation, targeting and situational awareness capabilities and helping to close the capability gap.”
