The Danish Armed Forces have officially received the first two of 129 Patria 6×6 armored personnel carriers (APCs) from Finland, marking a major step in modernizing Denmark’s land forces under the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) program. The vehicles, delivered to Bornholm, will initially be used for training and education ahead of full operational deployment. Denmark’s Ministry of Defence announced in April that it would strengthen the Army’s combat capability with new armored vehicles from Patria. The procurement was fast-tracked, with the first delivery arriving only months after the political decision was made. “With the purchase of armored personnel carriers from Patria, we are strengthening the Army broadly, contributing both to the light infantry battalion and the heavy brigade,” said Danish Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen. “This acquisition modernizes our forces and ensures soldiers have updated equipment. The speed of this delivery shows that we are accelerating the build-up of Denmark’s defense.”

The first delivery enables the Danish Armed Forces to begin training mechanics, operators, and specialists in preparation for the wider roll-out of the fleet. The majority of the 129 APCs are scheduled for delivery from 2026 onwards. Colonel Thomas Ø. Knudsen, Head of the Land Division in the Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization (FMI), emphasized the multinational cooperation behind the project:“The vehicles now arriving in Denmark will allow us to train personnel ahead of final fielding to the Army at the turn of the year. This program is a joint procurement with Finland, Sweden, Latvia, and Germany, with production carried out in Finland and supported by Nordic – including Danish – subcontractors. The rapid acquisition reflects strong Nordic collaboration, enhancing supply security and providing logistic support opportunities across the region.”
The Patria 6×6 APCs are financed through the Danish Accelerations Fund, which supports rapid capability enhancement projects. Developed under the multinational Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) framework, the Patria 6×6 offers interoperability with partner nations and streamlined logistics across participating armies. Thevehicles will enhance both Denmark’s light infantry battalion and heavy brigade. The platforms are designed for multiple roles, including: Infantry and engineer transport, Command and communication stations, Armored ambulances and Electronic warfare support. This versatility is expected to significantly boost Denmark’s operational flexibility in both national defense and NATO missions.
