Insta and the Finnish Defence Forces have signed a multi-year agreement for the delivery of domestically produced FPV drones. Designed, tested and manufactured in Finland, the solutions build on Insta’s long-standing expertise in defence technology, secure communications and data links, and unmanned systems. Insta and the Finnish Defence Forces have signed a multi-year agreement for the delivery of domestically produced FPV drones for use in the training of Finnish conscripts. The total value of the agreement, including options, is EUR 14 million, and the first systems have already been delivered to the Finnish Defence Forces. The FPV drones manufactured by Insta have been tested and approved by the Finnish Defence Forces. The systems will support the expansion of large-scale flight training across all Finnish Army brigade-level units with micro unmanned aircraft systems capable of carrying mission-specific payloads. The role of FPV drones in modern warfare has grown rapidly. FPV (first-person view) drones transmit live video directly to the operator. The Finnish Army has recently expanded its use of FPV drones and related training.

A Complete Solution Designed for Finnish Conditions
Insta’s long-standing expertise in defence technology, combined with its specialised expertise in unmanned aviation, secure communications and data links, and systems development, provides a strong foundation for domestic drone production. Insta currently manufactures 7-inch and 10-inch FPV drones designed to meet a wide range of operational requirements. The solutions are designed, tested and manufactured in Finland and are well suited to Nordic conditions. Their modular architecture enables the integration of mission-specific payloads and the flexible development of the systems in response to rapidly changing requirements.

Development Focuses on Scalability and the Evolving Security Environment
The development and production of FPV drones extend beyond the airframes themselves to complete systems. These systems combine the platform, control systems, communications and situational awareness capabilities, payloads, training, maintenance and sustainment. The development work builds on Insta’s long-standing expertise in the development, manufacture and sustainment of defence technology, as well as close cooperation with industry partners.

“The modern operating environment requires reliable, scalable solutions that can be adapted rapidly, supported by strong expertise in technology and systems development. The development work has also drawn on international lessons learned from the evolving security environment and the use of drones on the modern battlefield,” says Tuure Lehtoranta, Senior Vice President, Sales, Marketing and Government Relations at Insta.

“Domestic drone production strengthens security of supply and supports the operational readiness of the Finnish Defence Forces,” says Juha-Matti Ylitalo, Deputy Director of the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command and Brigadier General (Eng.).

Insta is a strategic partner of the Finnish Defence Forces, and the cooperation between the two organisations spans several decades. The development of drone capabilities forms part of Insta’s broader defence technology portfolio, which includes command-and-control (C2) systems, cyber security and secure communications solutions, as well as other unmanned and autonomous systems.
