Marshall Aces Audit to Provide C-130H Maintenance Training Under New Regulations

Marshall has formally gained approval to provide maintenance training for the fleet of C-130H aircraft operated by the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF). The approval, granted by the Netherlands Military Aviation Authority (NLD-MAA), demonstrates full compliance with new Military Aviation Requirements for aircraft maintenance training organisations (NLD-MAR-147), and follows an extensive application process during which Marshall’s application was sponsored by RNLAF. The process included a rigorous audit of Marshall’s training syllabus, training materials, staff competence and facilities, with exemplary ratings achieved in every area. The auditor specifically called attention to the “huge amount of work” conducted in preparation, as well as Marshall’s “very professional approach” throughout the process.

“This is our first Military Aviation Authority (MAA) type training approval for C-130H maintenance training under the new European Military Airworthiness Requirements (EMAR), and will doubtless establish a skill set enabling shorter lead times for future approvals for other operators. We have worked on the C-130 platform since 1966, and this has formed the basis of an enduring and multifaceted relationship with RNLAF. We are enormously grateful to our RNLAF partners for their support and sponsorship throughout this process.” said Mark Hewer Business Line Director – Aero Engineering Services, Marshall.

Marshall has been supporting the Royal Netherlands Air Force’s C-130H fleet for over two decades, including the signing of a 14 year contract in 2018 to sustain the RNLAF’s C-130H fleet through to its out-of-service date. The approval coincides with the renewal of a four year total sustainment contract between Marshall and the RNLAF, further strengthening this enduring relationship. The H model improved on the later C-130E but with more powerful Allison T56-A-15 turboprop engines and was delivered starting in 1965, with delivery of the current, more advanced models starting in 1974. Improvements included uprated engines, redesigned outer wing, improved pneumatic systems, new avionics, improved radar, and NVG lighting. Introduced in June 1974 with 308 ordered. The C-130Hs are being replaced by the C-130J.

Marshall has a diverse portfolio of businesses across a range of sectors including aerospace and defence, temperature-controlled distribution, and property. Since 1909, The company technology and engineering expertise has enabled us to provide mission-critical support for customers ranging from global armed forces and aircraft manufacturers to supermarket chains. The company made name by predicting the rise of motorisation and aviation, and have kept the same forward-thinking spirit alive today through ambitious new ventures in next-generation flight and connected infrastructure.
