On the 79th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, PT Pindad introduced its latest innovation in the field of domestic defense technology: the SPS-1 (Silent Disabler Series 1) anti-drone weapon and the Maung MV3 Mobile Jammer. The unveiling took place on August 17, 2024, at the new capital city, Ibu Kota Nusantara, and was part of the security operations for the Independence Day ceremony attended by President Joko Widodo and President-elect Prabowo Subianto. Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN, Nusantara), is the de jure capital of Indonesia, located between Kutai Kartanegara Regency and North Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan. Ibu Kota Nusantara is planned to be a special authority region at the provincial level, replacing Jakarta which has been the capital since 1961. Looking ahead, these innovations are expected to be utilized by the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) in bolstering national security, particularly against illegal drone threats.
Sigit P. Santosa, PT Pindad’s Director of Technology and Development, highlighted the significance of these innovations in enhancing national defense capabilities. “These products are groundbreaking, integrating both soft kill (anti-drone) and hard kill (firearms) capabilities—an entirely domestic development that maximizes local content. With robust technical support and post-sale service, the SPS-1 and Maung MV3 Mobile Jammer are poised to strengthen national defense against illegal drone threats, contributing to Indonesia’s defense industry self-reliance,” said Santosa.
VP of Innovation, Prima Kharisma, emphasized the unique nature of this defense system, which is unprecedented on a global scale. “This is a hybrid system, never before developed anywhere else in the world. It’s an original design from Indonesia, with the vehicle, weaponry, and jammer components integrated into a single cohesive anti-drone defense system,” Kharisma stated.
The SPS-1, operated by a single personnel, is highly mobile, battery-powered, and independent of static power systems. It neutralizes drone threats through two methods: a soft kill approach, which disables a drone’s control access within a 500-meter range, and a hard kill option, which destroys drones within a 150-meter range. The design of the SPS-1 reflects the latest technological advancements and user needs. Meanwhile, the Maung MV3 Mobile Jammer is engineered as a mobile anti-drone system capable of swiftly and accurately neutralizing drone threats. The vehicle features a drone jammer for soft kill operations and a 12.7 mm SM5 A1 heavy machine gun for hard kill measures. With a jamming radius of 3 kilometers and a destruction range of up to 1.8 kilometers, this vehicle offers reliable protection and is equipped with a 4×4 drivetrain, enabling it to operate on various terrains, both on-road and off-road.
