Hariff Defense, an Indonesian electronics and defense company, recently conducted successful firing trials for its SLT (Senjata Lawan Tank, Anti-tank Weapon) shoulder-fired recoilless rifle. The SLT is a lightweight, low-cost weapon collaboration with PT Dahana. PT Dahana, a key partner in this project, is responsible for producing the propellant used in the rocket’s propulsion system, while Hariff Defense focuses on the weapon’s electronic components. This collaboration has earned the trust of Indonesian Army’s Infantry Weapons Center (Pussenif), which oversees the project’s funding and is the intended user of the SLT system.
The SLT underwent dynamic testing on November 16, 2021, at the Infantry Training Center (Pusdikif) in Cipatat, Bandung, West Java. These tests assessed the weapon’s range and rocket stability upon launch. The SLT demonstrated impressive performance, with the rocket traveling up to 600 meters, surpassing the initial target range of 300-400 meters. Weighing in at nearly 3 kg, including its training ammunition, and with a launcher length of 1 meter, the SLT is designed for ease of operation by a single soldier. Unlike disposable anti-tank weapons, the SLT’s rocket can be reloaded multiple times into the launcher, making it a reusable asset in combat scenarios.
Currently, the SLT is in its training phase, designed primarily for instructional purposes. However, future versions of the SLT will be equipped with warheads, enabling it to serve as an effective defense weapon. The warhead-equipped SLT is expected to be capable of neutralizing tanks, armored vehicles, and other types of combat vehicles. The weapon is normally operated by a two-man crew, a gunner who carries and fires the weapon and a loader, carrying two canisters for a total of four rounds of ammunition. One or two extra ammunition carriers can be assigned if heavy use is expected.
