To ensure fleet superiority and mission readiness, the U.S. Air Force has begun deploying Teamcenter™ as its enterprise-level product lifecycle management (PLM) solution. Teamcenter will enable the USAF to achieve greater innovation while improving acquisition and sustainment cycles for both new and legacy weapon systems. USAF announced last month that it has started deploying 5,700 users of Teamcenter as part of its migration to a PLM solution. The USAF chose Teamcenter as its PLM solution because of its open architecture, interoperability and widespread use across a large segment of the aerospace and defense industry.

The selection of Teamcenter was part of a 2019 indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for $24.6 million awarded to Siemens, which included licensing, maintenance and support. This initial deployment is part of a plan to deploy over 25,000 Teamcenter licenses with the USAF. Configuration and deployment of Teamcenter across the USAF will continue over the next several years to come. The licenses are being deployed across the Department of the Air Force (DAF), with centralized program management at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.

To effectively manage growing complexity and foster continuous innovation, the U.S. Air Force has embraced virtual engineering, manufacturing and sustainment. Flexible and open digital tools are needed to enable a more agile and collaborative software and product development process. Part of the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio, Teamcenter is a modern-day PLM solution that can manage all data and processes, from early program management to systems engineering to product support and sustainment.

It will provide USAF with visibility into all aspects of the product lifecycle and enable more workforce collaboration and knowledge management. By optimizing the product lifecycle and using a single secure environment, the U.S. Air Force will be able to accelerate development, deliver innovative capabilities and share product status details at any time, from any location. Siemens is proud to support the digital transformation of the U.S. Air Force
