Hanwha has announced its participation in Eurosatory 2024, the world’s premier land and air defense exhibition, held in Paris, France, from June 17th to 21st. The event, which takes place biennially since 1967, attracts over 2,000 companies from more than 60 countries. With European countries increasingly integrating advanced weapons systems within the EU, Hanwha aims to highlight the superiority of Korean defense technology and accelerate its penetration into the global market. Hanwha Aerospace and Hanwha Systems will have a significant presence at the exhibition, occupying a 308-square-meter hall—the largest among Korean companies. Hanwha Aerospace will make its European debut of the Chunmoo multiple-launch rocket system, showcasing a variety of missiles with ranges of 80, 160, and 290 kilometers.
Additionally, they will emphasize the versatility of their 122mm caliber rockets, which are already in use by numerous countries worldwide. To support the growing number of Chunmoo adopters, Hanwha Aerospace is considering establishing a ‘Chunmu User Club’ to share operational expertise. Interest in Chunmu is expanding beyond Poland to nations in the Middle East, Europe, and Southeast Asia. This initiative follows the successful ‘K9 Self-Propelled Artillery User Club,’ which brings together representatives from nine countries, including Korea, to exchange knowledge on tactical operations, maintenance, and training.
The K239 Chunmoo is a rocket artillery system developed in 2013 to replace the aging K136 Kooryong of the South Korean military.The K239 Chunmoo is a self-propelled multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) capable of firing several different guided or unguided artillery rockets. The K239 is capable of launching K33 131 mm rockets, but not 130 mm rockets (such as the K30, K37 and K38), which are used in the existing K136 Kooryong rocket artillery system. The K239 launcher carries two launch pods that can hold three types of rockets. Two different types of rocket pods can be loaded at once. The rocket pod can launch six 239 mm rockets in 30 seconds and a total of 12 rockets in one minute, and it’s possible to reload two rocket pods in seven minutes.
Hanwha Aerospace will also introduce the latest enhancements to their K9 self-propelled howitzer, including the K9 A2 model with a fully automated turret. The exhibition will feature the K10 ammunition resupply vehicle, a modular propellant charge compliant with NATO standards, and a precision guidance fuze, presenting a comprehensive self-propelled artillery package. Hanwha Systems will display the Integrated Battlefield System (IBS), which equips the K2 tank—exported to Poland—the K9 self-propelled howitzer, and the Australian-made Redback Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV). The IBS integrates command and fire control functions with various sensors and communication systems, acting as the brain and sensory organs of ground combat systems and adaptable to a wide range of weaponry.
