General Dynamics Land Systems and Power Team Partners Awarded Logistics Vehicle Modernization Contract

The Government of Canada awarded a contract to General Dynamics Land Systems and joint venture partner Marshall Canada to provide the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) a new fleet of light and heavy logistics vehicles. The General Dynamics Land Systems and Marshall Canada team will deliver more than 1,000 light trucks and approximately 500 heavy trucks with associated equipment, such as armoured protection kits, modules, containers and trailers. The Logistics Vehicle Modernization (LVM) project is being awarded as two contracts: one for vehicle acquisition, valued at $1.5 billion (including taxes), and one for in-service support, valued up to $1.08 billion (including taxes) over 25 years. General Dynamics Land Systems will be responsible for integration and support services throughout the life of the LVM project and is joined by a team of four other industry leaders: Marshall Canada, an aerospace and defence solution provider; Mercedes?Benz (Daimler Trucks), a longtime supplier to the Canadian Army with more than 120 years’ experience designing and manufacturing trucks for militaries globally; Soframe, recognized for its expertise in the protection of military users; and Manac Inc., Canada’s largest and most diverse trailer manufacturer.

“As Canada’s strategic provider of land platforms, General Dynamics Land Systems–Canada is honoured to have the opportunity to provide our Canadian Armed Forces with the modern vehicles, equipment and services they need to keep Canadians safe. We have been supplying the CAF with our products for over 47 years, so we are pleased that the Canada is, once again, showing trust in what we deliver for the women and men who serve our country,” said Jason Alejandro Monahan, Vice President and General Manager of General Dynamics Land Systems–Canada.

“General Dynamics Land Systems believes collaboration with our global customers and industry brings the most capable solutions to Soldiers, and this Power Team is designed to deliver unique and reliable capability. We are known for our innovative engineering, extensive manufacturing and integration capability, and unparalleled customer support. We look forward to delivering the LVM capability to the Canadian Army,” said Dave Paddock, President of General Dynamics Land Systems.

The Power Team’s solution for the LVM project starts with the Mercedes Zetros truck, a powerful and versatile platform designed to provide the CAF with reliability, durability and ruggedness under the most adverse climate and operational conditions. Featuring a common chassis with more than 90 percent commonality across all variants of the CAF’s new logistics fleet, the Mercedes Zetros eliminates the need to support and maintain two different fleets. This provides savings for Canada through a common logistics footprint that reduces the procurement and sustainment cost and increases training efficiencies.
