The Multi-Utility Tactical Transport (MUTT) is a semi-autonomous robotic platform that reduces physical burden on the dismounted Soldier and can be equipped with an array of Modular Mission Payloads. It is the most intuitive, capable and reliable UGV ever produced and the first of its kind to be selected for service alongside dismounted troops. MUTT uses unique methods of control, such as the dismount following tether or the easy-to-use one-handed RC controller, which minimize Soldiers’ physical and cognitive loads during dismounted missions. General Dynamics Land Systems’ MUTT was selected by the U.S. Army in July 2020 for the Small Multipurpose Equipment Transport (S-MET) program. The U.S. Army Futures Command’s capstone exercise of an ambitious project of learning, multiple examples of the most cutting-edge military technology were put through their paces on Yuma Proving Ground’s (YPG) vast ranges. In addition to its usefulness for lugging heavy gear, or even wounded Soldiers, an armed variant is outfitted with a Javelin anti-tank missile, a .50 caliber machine gun, and a M4 rifle. One of the most rugged was the MUTT, an 8 x 8 unmanned all-terrain vehicle that will follow a dismounted infantry Soldier carrying a wireless tether. Future capabilities will include autonomous resupply, counter-unmanned aerial systems (C-UAS); chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) defense; intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR); electronic warfare (EW); direct fire and indirect fire.

General Dynamics will showcase its advanced land defense systems at a major defense show in the US to expand its footprint in the market. It is the most intuitive, capable and reliable UGV ever produced and the first of its kind to be selected for service alongside dismounted troops. The MUTT is a rugged, reliable small-unit force multiplier providing increased persistence, protection and projection. As a controllerless small-unit robotic follower, it lightens the load throughout the full gamut of combat operations. As a remote-controlled or teleoperated teammate, it provides stand-off from threats or increased projection of combat power. The MUTT is engineered to easily evolve to accommodate new payloads, new controllers and increased levels of autonomy. MUTT provides MUM-T 1.0 capability today.
