Honeywell’s Embedded Global Positioning System (GPS)/Inertial Navigation System (INS) (EGI) with M-Code, also known as EAGLE-M, has achieved MSO-c145b authorization from the United States Space Force Precise Positioning Service (PPS) Equipment Certification Office (PECO). The EAGLE-M is the culmination of a long-time progressive and successful working partnership with Army Program Executive Office (PEO) Aviation and Army Aviation Mission Systems and Architecture (PM-AMSA) to continuously address obsolescence and plan for new technology insertion. This authorization enabled Army PEO Aviation to achieve a Statement of Airworthiness Qualification (SAQ) from the Systems Readiness Directorate (SRD) at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, for installation on U.S Army Aviation aircraft. This is the first certification of any EGI with M-code on any platform worldwide.

Matt Picchetti, Vice President and General Manager of Honeywell’s Navigation and Sensors business, says “Honeywell is very proud to lead the way with the Army in fielding the certified EAGLE-M. As the first M-code equipped EGI to be fielded, we are enhancing resiliency to help the warfighter achieve mission success in today’s contested environments. We look forward to building from this success to provide a more resilient and certifiable nav solution for additional aircraft around the world.”

The EAGLE-M provides a more secure and resilient Position Navigation Timing (PNT) capability to Army Aviation aircraft. Most notably, the EAGLE-M includes an M?Code GPS receiver capable of supplying a more precise and resilient aircraft PNT solution that, when coupled with the EGI’s best in class inertial sensors, provides a resilient navigation solution that dramatically increases aviation operational capability within GPS contested environments. In addition to providing greater capability to Army Aviation aircrews operating within degraded GPS environments, the EAGLE-M enables compliance to Communication, Navigation, Surveillance/Air Traffic Management requirements including Automatic Dependent Surveillance–Broadcast (ADS-B), Required Navigation Performance (RNP) and Localizer Performance with Vertical guidance (LPV) through its DO-178 and DO-254 Design Assurance Level (DAL) A pedigree. This capability enhances Army Aviation’s ability to operate in any airspace worldwide increasing mission effectiveness and enhancing responsiveness.

Honeywell’s EGI with M-code is the obsolescence replacement for previous EGIs that relied on the Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Module (SAASM) embedded GPS receiver. Honeywell’s EGI with M-code eliminates obsolescence and ensures uninterrupted new aircraft production into the foreseeable future. Achieving this certification proves that our EGI with M-code is ready today with the full compliance to meet all security and airworthiness requirements for military aircraft worldwide. EAGLE-M EGIs ordered today are also approved for export to authorized countries. A pioneer in PNT technology combining the advantages of inertial navigation technology and GPS, Honeywell is a leader in EGI technologies with more systems deployed worldwide than any other supplier. Honeywell has provided more than 60,000 EGI units for leading fighter, transport, UAV, cargo, vertical takeoff and landing, and rotary-wing aircraft fielded on over 70 aircraft types flying in more than 30 nations.
