Royal Danish Army has received all its Precise and Universal Launching System (PULS) multiple rocket launchers (MRLs) and its first batch of 155 mm/52 calibre Autonomous Truck Mounted Howitzer Systems (ATMOS). Janes reported thatMost of the PULS munitions ordered by Denmark have also been delivered. The arrival of the first batch of ATMOS allows training to begin on one of the systems delivered. 19 ATMOS were scheduled to be delivered from the first to the fourth quarter of 2024 and eight PULSs from the second quarter of 2023 to the first quarter of 2024, with a full operating capability planned for 2025. In addition to a missile package, the PULS procurement includes command post and supply vehicles.
PULS (formerly known as Lynx MRL) is a multiple rocket launcher developed and manufactured by ELBIT Systems (formerly Israel Military Industries) and used by Israel Defense Forces and other countries. It can be configured to carry a variety of rockets in two sealed pod containers: 36 (2 pods × 18 rockets each) 122mm Grad rockets; or 26 (2×13) 160mm LAR-160 or ACCULAR rockets; or eight (2×4) 306mm EXTRA rockets; two (2×1) 330mm Delilah missiles or four (2×2) 370mm Predator Hawk tactical ballistic missiles. The PULS also able to carry and launch SkyStriker loitering munitions. The SkyStriker drones have a range over 100 km and 6 drones are packed into a single container according to a video published by Elbit Systems.
The PULS offers an economically efficient solution for accurately launching a range of advanced rockets and missiles, ensuring precise targeting capabilities with optimal responsiveness. Since the acquisition of Israel Military Industries by Elbit Systems in 2018, the PULS has undergone significant upgrades and modernization, enhancing its precision and effectiveness on the battlefield. This launcher boasts the capability to engage targets at ranges of up to 300km, offering a formidable strategic advantage to the IDF in combat situations. Transportable by aircraft like the C-130, this adaptation extends artillery support beyond traditional ranges.
Elbit Systems reported in August 2023 that Denmark had received its first ATMOS and PULS. The reported included a video of one ATMOS on an 8×8 platform and two PULSs on 6×6 platforms being delivered to a Danish port. Elbit announced on 2 March that it had awarded two contracts worth a total of USD252 million to a European NATO country: a USD119 million contract for a battalion’s worth of the ATMOS self-propelled howitzers (SPHs) over a two-year period and a USD133 million contract for two batteries’ worth of PULS MRLs, plus rockets and missiles, over a three-year period. The procurement includes training, spare parts, and tools for both systems.
