The Polish Armed Forces are set to receive additional FlyEye reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) from WB Electronics, a subsidiary of the WB Group. The procurement, finalized on April 19 by the Polish defence procurement agency (Armament Agency), entails a contract valued at nearly EUR 13.5 million (PLN 57.6 million). Under the terms of the agreement, WB Electronics will supply a total of seven FlyEye drone systems, each consisting of four reconnaissance drones and one ground control station. The delivery of these systems is slated to be completed by the end of 2024. These drones, specified for deployment by the Territorial Defence Forces, are anticipated to fortify Poland’s aerial reconnaissance capabilities significantly.
This recent contract builds upon a framework agreement inked between the Polish defence procurement agency and WB Electronics in September 2023, during the MSPO international defence industry exhibition. The framework agreement, aimed at bolstering future procurement endeavors, outlines the acquisition of a total of 400 FlyEye systems, signifying a substantial commitment to enhancing national security. these systems have undergone rigorous testing within the Polish Military, where they serve both the Operational Forces and the Territorial Defence Forces. Moreover, their deployment during wartime operations in Ukraine underscores their operational efficacy and reliability, as reported by the Polish Armament Agency.
FlyEye is a class of reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles developed by the Polish defence contractor WB Group. FLYEYE is a modular system characterized by the ease of assembly and disassembly. Launch readiness can be achieved in less than 10 minutes. Hand-launch with no additional equipment which allows it to be operated in tight spaces and confined areas. The observation head with two cameras (visible light and IR) attached under the fuselage of the FLYEYE mini UAV provides significantly better observation options and a function for rapid switching between the two video feeds. FLYEYE allows for integration with light precision armament and an acoustic vector sensor to detect source of fire. Depending on its purpose, FLYEYE can be integrated with other observation heads.
