The NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) supports the Albanian Air Force with the maintenance of their Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) helicopters. Having recently joined the Helicopter Partnership, the Ministry of Defence of Albania requested NSPA’s support to contract a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) center for their EC135 HEMS helicopters. The Agency rapidly consolidated this requirement with ADAC Heliservices, Europe’s largest emergency medical care service provider, leveraging an existing contract in its portfolio established for another Customer.
Richard Bouaziz, NSPA Aviation Officer said: “This effort was achieved through excellent cooperation among stakeholders, resulting in a timely return to service of the helicopter in less than 5 weeks. The EC135 helicopter, which had been undergoing maintenance since January 2024, has now been successfully returned to service and resumed operations as of 28 February 2024.”
NSPA’s support has been instrumental in assuring the continuity of Albania’s Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS). The collaboration with ADAC Heliservice and the common commitment to delivering safe, efficient and effective air rescue services underscores the dedication of the team to contribute to the enhancement and continuity of healthcare services in Albania. NSPA provides the full spectrum of Life Cycle Management services in the aviation domain for Fixed Wing Aircraft, Rotary Wing Aircraft, Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and Flight simulators.

This change marks the expansion of Agency capabilities to include all aspects of systems procurement from initial acquisition throughout sustainment.
