Aselsan has introduced its cutting-edge low-frequency towed active sonar system, marking a significant advancement in maritime defense capabilities. The unveiling of this innovative technology was accompanied by a compelling promotional video showcasing the system’s deployment aboard the Powhatan-class fleet ocean tug, A-590 TCG Inebolu, during rigorous trials. Named Düfas, this sonar system is meticulously crafted to empower surface combatants with unparalleled capabilities in long-range anti-submarine warfare and surveillance missions. The comprehensive system encompasses a low-frequency towed active array, a low-frequency towed passive triplet array, dedicated winches for both active and passive arrays, as well as signal processing and power cabinets, all integrated seamlessly into an operator console for intuitive control.
One of the standout features of Düfas is its ability to complement existing torpedo countermeasure systems, offering an additional layer of defense by providing real-time tactical insights for evasive maneuvers against incoming torpedoes. Düfas boasts a 360º omnidirectional transmission capability, fortified by a sophisticated bistatic/multistatic sonar architecture. Furthermore, its versatility is underscored by selectable pulse type and pulse length capabilities, granting operators unparalleled flexibility in adapting to diverse operational scenarios. In active mode, the system autonomously detects and localizes targets with precision, while in passive mode, it excels in automatically detecting, tracking, and classifying torpedoes over extended ranges.
Operating within a speed range of 5 kt to 15 kt, Düfas demonstrates remarkable survivability even at speeds reaching up to 30 kt, ensuring operational efficacy across various maritime conditions. Notably, its active sonar features a repertoire of continuous wave (CW), frequency modulation (FM), and FM/CW pulse types, ensuring optimal performance in detecting underwater threats. With a source level exceeding 200 dB re 1 µPA, Düfas stands as a formidable asset in the arsenal of naval defense. The introduction of Aselsan’s Düfas sonar system heralds a new era in maritime defense, providing naval forces with a decisive edge in safeguarding against submarine threats. With its advanced capabilities and robust design, Düfas sets a new standard for anti-submarine warfare technology, reaffirming Aselsan’s commitment to innovation and excellence in defense solutions.
