Edge Group Unveils Sinyar Jet-powered Unmanned Aircraft at Dubai Airshow 2023

At the prestigious Dubai Airshow 2023, the UAE’s Edge Group stole the spotlight by revealing their groundbreaking creation, the Sinyar—a jet-powered unmanned aircraft poised to revolutionize autonomous aviation. Among the 11 cutting-edge defense solutions unveiled, the Sinyar stood out, drawing attention for its innovative features and transformative potential. It was shown at the Dubai Airshow carrying four air-to-surface missiles on underwing hardpoints (two per wing). It boasts impressive attributes, including unparalleled flexibility for multiple missions and the capacity to carry substantial payloads, setting a new standard in the UAV landscape.

Built upon the foundation of the Flaris LAR01—a 5-seater light jet tailored for general aviation developed by Polish company Flaris, the Sinyar represents a leap forward in autonomous aerial capabilities. The Polish jet, with a crew of one pilot and accommodation for four passengers, was initially unveiled at the 2013 Paris Air Show. It is the only single-engined very light jet currently being developed by a non-American aircraft manufacturer. Propelled by a Williams FJ33-5A jet engine generating a maximum thrust of 8.3kN, the production version of the Flaris LAR01 aims for a top speed of Mach 0.72 (889km/h) and a cruising speed of 800km/h. With a range of 3,500 kilometers and a service ceiling of 31,000 feet, its capabilities are undeniably impressive. Originally intended to perform its maiden flight as early as 2013, the prototype first flew on 5 April 2019.

One of the Sinyar’s remarkable capabilities is its ability to operate at altitudes reaching a staggering 30,000 ft, while supporting payloads of up to 450 kg—a testament to its advanced engineering and design. Various features for safety and convenience are to be incorporated into the LAR01’s design. Unlike many jet-powered aircraft, it is claimed to be readily capable of being operable from unpaved runways and grass strips. This achievement was made possible through the Edge Group’s strategic investment in Flaris, securing a 50% stake in the Polish aircraft manufacturer responsible for producing this game-changing unmanned aircraft.

However, the Sinyar wasn’t the sole star of Edge Group’s showcase at the airshow. Alongside this innovative unmanned jet, the company unveiled other pioneering platforms like the Reach-M—a formidable armed, medium-altitude, long-endurance unmanned aircraft system (UAS)—and the HT-100 synchropter UAS, further cementing their commitment to pushing the boundaries of aerospace technology. The debut of the Sinyar at the Dubai Airshow 2023 signals a pivotal moment for the UAE’s Edge Group as it aims to assert its dominance in the realm of autonomous air systems. With its cutting-edge technology and the promise of redefining autonomous aviation, the Sinyar represents a monumental stride toward the future of aerial defense and innovation.
