ESG Awarded Bundeswehr Contract Procurement of Simulators for Aptitude Testing

Elektroniksystem- und Logistik-GmbH has been awarded a contract for the procurement of simulators for aptitude testing for the Bundeswehr’s aviation service and flight management service. These will be used for Phase III of the aptitude test for fixed-wing aircraft pilots. The Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) has concluded a corresponding procurement contract with ESG for a total of four systems. The simulators will be delivered as early as 2024. In Phase III of the aptitude assessment for fixed-wing aircraft pilots, applicants for the aviation service complete a series of different flight tasks on a psychological test device based on a flight simulator as part of a flight psychology learning and work test during an examination week. The structure of the tasks reflects, on the one hand, flight tasks that are typical in flight training and, on the other hand, typical operational and mission-related tasks that are required, for example, for assignment as a jet pilot.

ESG’s services include the delivery of replica fixed-wing aircraft cockpits, various consoles and corresponding documentation for the preparation and follow-up of the selection process. ESG is also responsible for developing, installing and integrating the necessary software. The new simulators will replace the existing systems in Fürstenfeldbruck, which are currently used for aptitude testing by the Bundeswehr, as in future all aptitude testing will be centralised in Cologne. Experience to date has shown that simulation-based selection contributes significantly to increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of pilot training. This contract underlines ESG’s high level of proven expertise in customised, manufacturer-independent simulation and training solutions.
