Rheinmetall Unveils Ragnarok 120mm Mortar System at DSEI 2023

Rheinmetall, a global leader in defense technology, is set to showcase its latest innovation, the Ragnarok Mortar Weapon Station 120mm , at this year’s Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) exhibition. Ragnarok, a versatile mortar system, promises to revolutionize the capabilities of both wheeled and tracked combat vehicles. Ragnarok emerges as the triumphant successor to the MWS81, an 81mm mortar system that has been in service with the Norwegian armed forces since 2017. Designed with adaptability in mind, Ragnarok is engineered to meet a wide range of customer requirements, making it a promising addition to military arsenals worldwide. One of Ragnarok’s standout features is its flexibility when it comes to barrel compatibility. Customers can opt to use their existing in-service barrels or select a barrel of their preference.

Adaptability extends beyond barrels. Ragnarok can be equipped with a variety of customer-furnished equipment or supplied with Rheinmetall’s solutions. The mortar system can seamlessly interface with ballistic computers and most Battle Management Systems (BMS) available in the market. This feature empowers customers to evolve their mortar capabilities with minimal disruptions to existing solutions and networks. Despite its robust capabilities, Ragnarok boasts a compact design with a small diameter of just 1275mm. This compact size allows it to be integrated onto most military vehicle platforms while still providing ample space for the crew and ammunition storage. Furthermore, the minimal force transferred to the vehicle platform eliminates the need for support legs or similar solutions on most platforms. The effectiveness of Ragnarok on the target is another area where it excels.

Featuring a manually loaded mortar, it can achieve a maximum rate of fire between 18 to 20 rounds per minute, surpassing automatic loading systems on the market. This high rate of fire enables the crew to complete a four-round mission in less than one minute from receiving the fire mission to the last round fired. Such rapid response times enhance mission success and troop protection through movement. Additionally, the manually loaded system exhibits exceptional performance and reliability even in harsh weather conditions, such as snow, ice, and sand, due to its minimal number of moving mechanical parts. Rheinmetall invites attendees to experience the future of mortar systems firsthand at DSEI 2023, booth H5-110. With Ragnarok’s adaptability, compact size, and superior effect on target, it promises to be a game-changer in modern warfare. Don’t miss the opportunity to witness this cutting-edge technology in action.
