The Altug 8×8 is available in two versions: an Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) and an Armored Personnel Carrier (APC). The IFV is equipped with a Caterpillar C13 diesel engine providing 711 hp, coupled with an Allison 4000 Series transmission featuring six forward and one reverse gears. On the other hand, the APC version is fitted with a BMC Power 600 hp diesel engine, maintaining the same power-to-weight ratio, with the GVW under 31 tonnes. The vehicle is designed for exceptional off-road performance, with the capability to ford up to 1.2 meters, overcome a 0.7 meters vertical obstacle, a 2.2 meters wide trench, and handle a 60% slope and a 30% side lope. It boasts a maximum speed of 110 km/h and an impressive range of over 800 km. The Altug 8×8’s protection features include a nearly “V” shaped hull to increase mine resistance, with a ground clearance of approximately 450 mm. The vehicle adheres to the stringent TLF requirements for protection levels, including measures against IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices).
To ensure sufficient energy supply, the Altug is equipped with a 600 A alternator, and it features an APU (Auxiliary Power Unit) capable of providing 18 Kw power to operate the turret, sensors, communication systems, and air conditioning while minimizing its signature when operating in a static position and conserving fuel. Internally, the Altug offers a protected volume of over 15 m3, accommodating up to 12 military personnel, including the driver, commander, and gunner, along with nine dismounts. The vehicle’s modular rooftop design allows for interchangeable variants to suit specific mission requirements. As BMC prepares for comparative trials leading to the selection of the platform by the TLF, the initial batch of Altug 8×8 vehicles is expected to be divided almost equally between IFVs and APCs, highlighting the vehicle’s flexibility and adaptability for a range of military operations.
