The PARS 3 LR in German service, also known as TRIGAT-LR (Third Generation AntiTank, Long Range) and AC 3G in French, is a fire-and-forget missile, which can be used against air or ground targets. The programme was initiated by Germany, France and the United Kingdom. After the UK withdrew, only Germany and France remained. The manufacturer is Parsys GmbH, a joint venture between MBDA Deutschland GmbH and Diehl BGT Defence. The missile system has been tested and qualified in 2013. Production for the German Army is managed by PARSYS GmbH, a joint venture of MBDA Deutschland GmbH (50%) and Diehl BGT Defence GmbH & Co.KG (50%). On 30 June 2006, Germany ordered 680 PARS 3 LR missiles for €380 million. Deliveries began in 2012.
It is intended for long range applications and designed to defeat tanks, helicopters and other individual targets, while minimizing the exposure of the launch vehicle to enemy fire. The fire-and-forget capability of PARS 3 LR enables the platform system to leave its position immediately after firing the missile. In this way, platform and crew are exposed to the enemy’s reconnaissance and counter-action for a minimal amount of time. The precision and effectiveness of the missile is ensured over the entire firing range. Due to its tandem shaped charge warhead and its infrared-seeker PARS 3 LR can engage infrastructure targets as effective as mobile or stationary armoured targets.
