The Indonesian Navy Sigma-class frigate KRI Raden Eddy Martadinata successfully conducted a firing of the VL MICA missile with the SCRS (Sistemas de Control Remoto) CRAB II drone as the target in the waters north of Bali Island as part of the the Combat Task Exercise (Glagaspur) conducted by the Indonesian Navy. KRI Raden Eddy Martadinata (331) is the lead ship of the Martadinata-class frigates of the Indonesian Navy. The ship entered PAL Indonesia drydock in Surabaya at around July–August 2018 for FFBNW (Fit For But Not With) refit project, which consisted of four work stages and lasted 17 months. Raden Eddy Martadinata was deployed in waters off Nusa Dua, Bali to patrol the area during 2022 G20 Bali summit on 15–16 November 2022.

The Raden Eddy Martadinata class of guided-missile frigates of the Indonesian Navy are SIGMA 10514 types of the Netherlands-designed Sigma family of modular naval vessels, named after Indonesian Admiral Raden Eddy Martadinata. The frigates are each built from six modules or sections, four built at the PT PAL shipyard at Surabaya, the other two at Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding in the Netherlands. These warships were designed as multi-mission frigates, able to fulfill the anti-aircraft warfare role with surface-to-air missiles (SAMs), Anti-Surface Warfare (ASuW) with Exocet missiles, anti-submarine warfare with hull mounted sonar, torpedoes and Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Helicopters.

Martadinata class frigates are equipped with modern weaponry equipment integrated into the combat management system (CMS). In addition, she also has a stealth design such as low radar cross section, low infrared signature, low noise signature, making her more difficult to be detected by other ships’ radars. The primary weapon systems for the Raden Eddy Martadinata class include 1 x OTO Melara Super Rapid 76 mm Main gun, 2 x Denel Vektor GA-1 20 mm Autocannon, 1 x Rheinmetall Oerlikon Millennium Gun 35 mm CIWS, 12 x VL MICA-M Surface-to-air missile, 8 x Exocet MM40 Block III Anti-ship missile, and 2 x WASS B515/3 Triple torpedo launcher for WASS A244-S Mod.3 324 mm Lightweight torpedo.

Vertical Launch MICA (VL MICA) is a short range, ground based air defence system deploying the MICA fire-and-forget missile. It is available in a ground-based version, VL MICA, fired from a truck-mounted box launcher, and a naval version, VL MICA-M, fired from a ship-fitted vertical launch system. Corvettes too small to have the big and costly Aster missile system are the most likely customers for the VL MICA-M, which offers similar capability as the Aster 15 but without its booster and PIF-PAF vectorial control. While the VL MICA has an advertised range of 20 km, aerodynamic performance is significantly degraded at those ranges. From 0 to 7 km MICA has maneuverability of 50g, however by 12 km this is reduced to 30g as energy is lost.
