Curtiss-Wright Awarded $8.7 Million US Navy Contract to Support MOSA Computer Modules

Curtiss-Wright’s Defense Solutions division, a leading supplier of Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA)-based solutions engineered for success, announced that it was awarded a firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract in excess of $8.7 million by the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division to supply its Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) based single board computer (SBC) technology in support of the AN/UPX-24(V) identification friend or foe (IFF) processor sets. Under the contract, Curtiss-Wright will provide its SVME-183 VMEbus SBC to the U.S. Navy at St. Inigoes, Maryland. This award is the third consecutive multi-year IDIQ contract Curtiss-Wright has received in support of this program. This contract, which began in November 2022, is scheduled to run through the end of 2024. The use of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS)-based MOSA solutions and commercial best practices delivers cost-effective new capabilities and supports more economical and timely upgrades for U.S. Navy RADAR processing systems such as the AN/UPX-24(V).

The MOSA directive has accelerated the adoption of a variety of open standards, such as The Open Group Sensor Open Systems Architecture™ (SOSA) and the U.S. Army CCDC C5ISR Center’s C5ISR/EW Modular Open Suite of Standards (CMOSS), that have been adopted by the three military branches. Modular Open Systems Approach drives faster time to market, lower cost, increased software portability, technology innovation, and interoperability among systems across all defense domains. This Position Paper will guide you through why MOSA exists, its history and context, and why MOSA is ideally suited to creating the capabilities required to counter an uncertain and dangerous world of rapidly shifting threats.
