On 4th of November this year, an agreement was signed between the Armaments Agency and Rosomak S.A. for the delivery of another batch of Rosomak-WRT (WRT for Wóz Rozpoznania Technicznego, technical reconnaissance vehicle). The subject of the contract is the delivery of 11 Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) Rosomak in the version of the Technical Reconnaissance Vehicle in the years 2024 – 2025. The value of the new contract is 144 million PLN gross. The Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland already use 34 vehicles in this version, which were deployed to the equipment of the Polish Army between 2016 and 2018.
The KTO (Kolowy Transporter Opancerzony Rosomak, wheeled armored personnel carrier) Rosomak (Polish for “Wolverine”) is an 8×8 multi-role military vehicle produced by Rosomak S.A. (formerly Wojskowe Zaklady Mechaniczne) in Siemianowice Slaskie (Upper Silesia), a Polish Armaments Group company. The vehicle is a licensed variant of Patria’s armored modular vehicle. The name “Rosomak” was chosen following a contest organized by the Nowa Technika Wojskowa magazine. The Rosomak replaced the obsolete OT-64 SKOT APCs and partially the BWP-1 IFV currently in service with the Polish Land Forces.
In December 2002, the Polish Ministry of National Defense signed a contract to buy 690 Patria AMV vehicles, to be manufactured in Poland. The main competitors of the AMV were the MOWAG Piranha and Steyr Pandur. As part of the initial order, 690 vehicles were to be delivered in two basic variants: 313 combat IFVs and 377 transport-special base vehicles. In October 2013 the order increased to 997 for delivery between 2014 and 2019. The main feature of the AMV is its modular design, which allows the incorporation of different turrets, weapons, sensors, or communications systems on the same carriage.
The Technical Reconnaissance Vehicle is designed to support military units operating the AMV 8×8 Rosomak. The crew consists of: commander, driver, two mechanics and a paramedic (optional). Construction and specialized equipment enables the crew to perform diagnostic and repair activities as well as rescue operations, while maintaining the ability to fulfill the tasks typical in battlefield such as fire or observation. The Technical Reconnaissance Vehicle has all typical advantages of AMV Rosomak such as: high mobility, swimming abilities and the high level of protection.
