Professor Ismail Demir, President of the Defence Industry Agency (DIA), announced that BOYGA autonomous combat quadcopter drones by STM have been delivered to the Turkish Armed Forces. The drone carrying mortar ammunition BOYGA has passed the acceptance tests. BOYGA is the latest member of STM’s tactical mini unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) product family. With the help of deep learning, machine learning and computer vision techniques, the company are developing unmanned platforms that contain different types of pioneering technologies that can act autonomously as swarms or on their own, in battle areas where there is no data communication, and increase the autonomy of unmanned platforms. BOYGA will be used in counter-terrorism and asymmetric warfare environments.
BOYGA is an ammunition drop UAV solution that can carry MKE Inc’s 81 mm and 60 mm mortar ammunition adapted to the mechanism that releases the safety system and can carry out the planned task and drop the user loads on the target or coordinate it chooses. It has an algorithm that helps target the estimation of mortar ammunition. It performs a task at the level of “Man-in-the-loop” (where the user is in the loop) by following the target selected by the user from the screen image with image processing algorithms. Munition system integration is carried out in cooperation with MKE. The BOYGA reaches a flight altitude of 1,500 meters, and a single soldier can carry it as it weighs 15 kg. The operating range of BOYGA is five kilometres. It has a 30-minute endurance with mortar ammunition onboard.
