Cubic Defense Applications Inc., San Diego, California, has been awarded a $193,300,000 single-award contract for the P5 Combat Training System (P5CTS) contractor logistic support. This contract provides continuous depot-level contractor services by replacing the previous contract that expired on July 20, 2020. Work will be performed in San Diego, and is expected to be completed September 2027. Foreign Military Sales (FMS) customers comprise an estimated 56% of the value of the contract and include Australia, Egypt, Morocco, Oman, Poland, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and United Kingdom. Fiscal 2020 through 2025 operations and maintenance are expected to be placed against the contract. Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, Hill Air Force Base, Utah, is the contracting activity.
Cubic’s P5CTS air combat training system is designed to provide users with live mission training capabilities for advanced weapons and tactics training. The system features real-time air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons simulations and live monitoring capabilities. The P5CTS helps improve US and coalition air combat training. It is used by the USAF, US Marine Corps, US Navy and coalition partners. It allows users to continuously relay time, space, position information (TSPI) of the aircraft during training exercises. The P5CTS provides high-fidelity, live mission training capabilities for advanced weapons and tactics training. The P5CTS enhances U.S. and coalition air combat training and allows warfighters to train as they fight.
Training for today’s advanced threats to air combat operations requires adaptable, high-fidelity training tools. The P5CTS is designed to provide tailorable and scalable instrumentation solutions that best support warfighter needs in air-to-air, air-to-ground and surface-to-air combat training missions. The globally fielded P5CTS enhances real-time and post-mission training by displaying the live-air picture, recording mission data, adjudicating weapons engagements and relaying Time, Space and Positioning Information (TSPI) between participating aircraft during training sorties. Key components of the system include secure, GPS-enabled, aircraft-mounted airborne instrumentation “pods” plus ground stations, which help aircrew conduct, monitor and control air combat training and post-flight debriefing.
Cubic invented air combat maneuvering instrumentation (ACMI) in 1973 and has been producing and delivering systems ever since. Overall, Cubic has delivered over 5,000 pods for 40 different aircraft at 80 locations worldwide. In the last decade, Cubic has delivered 2,000 P5CTS/TCTS pods to 17 countries and 30 training ranges. In addition to P5, Cubic operates a KITS ACMI pod production line and has delivered 640 KITS pods, with 50 ground stations and sustainment to the U.S. Air Force, Canada, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia and Thailand. Building upon three years of KITS production backlog, capacity for the new secure LVC pods and ground systems leverages current workforce and technical acumen. Cubic currently has three manufacturing centers in the U.S. and Mexico, that specialize in various components of its ACMI pods and LVC system.
