An air defense brigade of the Tibet Military district organized land-air confrontation training in the plateau hinterland at an altitude of 4500 meters. Featuring multiple types of ground-to-air missile systems and electronic countermeasure forces and engineering in a joint operation group, the live-fire drills recently took place in the Nianqing Tanggula, or Nyenchen Tonglha, Mountains at an elevation of 4,700 meters. High altitude and low temperature are great tests on the physical and military performance of officers and soldiers. The Tibet Military Region was reduced to the status of a district in 1971.

The air defense troops overcame a challenging harsh environment in a coordinated approach from land and air, integrated different modules and systems, practiced the land-air confrontation training. These kinds of drills demonstrated the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) capability to win a regional, high elevation conflict in its early stages by decisively eradicating the hostile headquarters. The training report came at a time when a clash broke out in the Galwan Valley region on the China-India border on Monday. While escalation to a large-scale military conflict is very unlikely, the Chinese military will be prepared.
