Marines of all ranks participate in formal military schools lasting from two weeks to nine months, correspondence courses, unit military education programs, group discussions and self study. Fundamental training objectives are based upon the Marine Corps Combat Readiness Evaluation System which evaluates certain tasks. Reservists train to the same standards. Using the MCCRES properly is fundamental in determining training readiness. It is the primary system to assess and evaluate unit training based on approved combat requirements–the mission statement.
