DTI-1 is a 302 mm self-propelled multiple rocket launcher system developed by Defense Technology Institute or DTI. The multiple rocket launchers is a derivative of the WS-1B developed by Sichuan Aerospace Industry Corporation (SCAIC, also known as Base 062) in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. In 2011, the DTI collaborated with China’s Ministry of Defence to conduct a research study on the development of DTI-1 rocket launchers. The locally-developed weapon was produced two years later. The rockets were then modified into DTI-1 guided missiles. A test firing of the DTI-1 guided missiles was carried out in China last year to determine their effectiveness, according to the report. The missiles travelled 150km when they were tested although they have a maximum range of 180km

SCAIC began to develop an unguided large-calibre multiple launch rocket system for the PLA ground forces in the late 1980s. The resulting Weishi-1 (WS-1) 302mm, 4-tube multiple rocket system was first tested in 1990. The ground equipment of the WS-1 comprises: a rocket launch truck, a transport and loading truck and a firing command truck. SCAIC continued the WS-1 development in the 1990s and introduced the improved WS-1B in the late 1990s. The WS-1B mainly targeted foreign customers and was actively marketed by Beijing-based China National Precision Machinery Corporation (CPMIEC). Compared to the WS-1, the WS-1B features an increased range of 180 km.

DTI-1G (Guided) is the guided version of the DTI-1 multiple rocket launcher system which integrates advanced technology of guidance and control system to increase accuracy of the rockets. The rockets launcher system is mounted at the rear of a 8×8 truck chassis with four tubes in two lines. The DTI-1G has a firing range from 70 to 150 km. DTI-1G is GPS/INS guided with 70-150 km range. it’s Circular Error Probable is less than 40 meters at 150 km.
