At the recent Interpol Counter-UAS (CUAS) test at Gardermoen Airport, KONGSBERG showcased the agility and performance of the KONGSBERG Drone Detection Radar (DR 100) in a highly demanding operational environment. Mounted in a quad-radar configuration on a deployable pickup platform, the DR 100 was assigned an Area of Responsibility (AOR) by Interpol and became fully operational within just five minutes of arrival. Leveraging a secure 5G connection, sensor data was instantly transmitted to the Control Centre established at Gardermoen, providing real-time situational awareness. The exercise focused exclusively on the detection, tracking and classification of airborne objects.

“Several participants commented on how quickly we deployed the Quad DR 100 system,” says Stefan Blom Hansen, Product Manager for DR 100 and leader of KONGSBERG’s participation in the event. “The speed of deployment reflects the system’s inherent mobility. DR 100 is designed with on-the-move capability, meaning we can detect, track and classify targets while operating from a moving platform. We are not limited to fixed positions.”

“The Gardermoen exercise provided an excellent opportunity to demonstrate the DR 100’s performance in a civilian environment,” says Cato Giil Eliassen, VP Business Development Seatex at KONGSBERG.” As drone activity around critical infrastructure continues to increase, airports represent an important and growing use case. The DR 100 combines rapid deployment, high detection performance and operational flexibility, making it a powerful tool for protecting airspace where uninterrupted operations are essential.”

Unlike many traditional systems, the DR 100 operates without filtering out low-altitude targets, enabling reliable detection of low-flying drones that often challenge conventional radar solutions. The system also classifies vehicles and personnel, contributing to a comprehensive operational picture. While kinetic and non-kinetic effectors were outside the scope of the test, the DR 100 is already being integrated into wider Counter-UAS ecosystems. Through ongoing collaborations with leading system integrators, with the DR 100 available to integrators across the market, the radar supports a range of response options including small-calibre weapon systems, interceptor drones, RF jammers and short-range missile solutions. The successful participation at Gardermoen reinforces KONGSBERG’s commitment to delivering advanced sensor solutions that enable faster decisions, improved situational awareness and effective protection of critical infrastructure.
