The Netherlands has signed a Letter of Intent with Sweden for the acquisition of a Saab GlobalEye Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft. The parties have not yet entered into a contract and Saab has not yet received an order from The Netherlands. Saab stands prepared and awaits the next steps of the procurement process. By providing real-time information to air forces, armies and navies, GlobalEye enables enhanced situational awareness of the surrounding areas and early detection of threats. The aircraft would be delivered in 2031, and the Netherlands would collaborate with the Swedish Air Force GlobalEye fleet from 2028.

The Saab GlobalEye is a multi-role airborne early warning & control (AEW&C) platform from Swedish defence and security company Saab. In service since April 2020, GlobalEye consists of a suite of sensors using Saab’s Erieye ER (Extended Range) radar and mission system with an array of active and passive sensors that provide long-range detection and identification of objects in the air, at sea and over land, installed in the Bombardier Global 6000/6500 long-range business jet. In addition to the AEW radar, the GlobalEye is equipped with additional sensors. Other mission equipment includes data links, voice and satellite communications and a command and control suite, the latter comprising five onboard operator stations.
