The French Government Defense Procurement Agency (Direction Générale de l’Armement, DGA) has formally accepted the delivery of the development aircraft alongside the first two operational Falcon 2000LXS Albatros platforms under the Avions de Surveillance et d’Intervention Maritime (AVSIMAR) program. Initiated in 2020 to modernize the French Navy’s maritime surveillance capabilities, the procurement framework outlines the acquisition and integration of 12 dedicated aircraft by 2031. Developed by Dassault Aviation in collaboration with defense industrial partners Naval Group, Safran, and Thales, the platform underwent extensive flight testing at Dassault’s Istres facility, with modification and conversion work centralized at the company’s Mérignac plant.
Engineered around the proven Falcon 2000LXS business jet architecture, the Albatros integration incorporates a ventral multifunction radar, a high-performance optronic turret, dedicated observation windows, an integrated Search & Rescue (SAR) chain-dropping system, and specialized military communication suites. The underlying airframe offers a maximum range of 7,400 km combined with high-subsonic transit speeds and low-speed flight characteristics optimized for persistent low-altitude surveillance. These aerodynamic and sensor capabilities enable the French Navy to conduct long-range maritime domain awareness, economic zone monitoring, anti-trafficking patrols, and emergency SAR operations across expansive territorial waters.
The induction of the Albatros builds upon Dassault Aviation’s established lineage of specialized maritime platforms, which includes the historical deployment of Falcon 20 variants with the US Coast Guard, Falcon 2000MSA aircraft with the Japan Coast Guard, and legacy Falcon 20 Gardian and Falcon 50M platforms within French service. Beyond lightweight surveillance assets, the manufacturer maintains a foundational role in France’s high-end maritime patrol and strike enterprise. This legacy encompasses the ongoing modernization of the Atlantique 2 (ATL2) long-range maritime patrol fleet to Standard 6 configuration, alongside the design and production of carrier-capable combat aircraft, notably the Rafale Marine operating with the French Navy and foreign export customers.
Representing the centerpiece of France’s updated action-at-sea strategy, the Albatros fleet will provide critical sovereign oversight across the world’s second-largest exclusive economic zone. Éric Trappier, Chairman and CEO of Dassault Aviation, highlighted that the platform offers a high-performance response to escalating maritime security challenges, environmental protection requirements, and border control imperatives. Backed by an global industrial footprint of over 10,000 military and civil aircraft delivered across its history, Dassault reported revenues of EUR7.4 billion (USD8.1 billion) in 2025, further underscoring its capacity to sustain complex naval aviation programs over the long term.
