German defense contractor Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft mbH (FFG) showcased its latest advancements in protected combat support vehicles at Eurosatory 2026, anchoring its presence with a major procurement milestone. The Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) officially signed a multi-year framework agreement with Flensburg Technology Systems GmbH (FTS), an FFG subsidiary. The contract secures the delivery of up to 200 units of the new Tahr platform, split between the light airborne combat vehicle (leichte Luftlande-Einsatz- und Gefechtsfahrzeug – le LL EGF) and the light airborne support vehicle (leichte Luftlande-Unterstützungsfahrzeug – le LL UstgFzg) configurations.
Designed explicitly to fulfill the highly demanding requirements of the German Special Forces Command (Kommando Spezialkräfte, KSK), the Tahr introduces a new 3.2-ton class to the Bundeswehr’s inventory. The platform is engineered as a agile 4×4 system optimized for extreme off-road mobility, rapid acceleration, and tactical stability in austere environments. According to FFG, the vehicle system has already demonstrated its operational maturity in active deployments, validating its versatility across a broad spectrum of specialized mission profiles prior to this fleet-scale procurement.
Under the terms of the strategic framework agreement, FTS will manage the long-term logistical supply, maintenance, and operational readiness for the fleet directly from its primary facility in Flensburg. FFG aims to leverage this contract to position the Tahr on the international market, targeting foreign defense partners seeking a combat-proven, rapidly deployable light tactical vehicle. The program highlights FFG’s established footprint as a medium-sized systems house capable of managing full-lifecycle defense solutions from initial conceptual design to global after-sales support.
The Tahr contract underscores FFG’s broader portfolio expansion beyond its traditional tracked and heavy wheeled armor programs. The company, which maintains a workforce of approximately 1,000 employees, has historically been recognized for its WiSENT 1 and 2 combat support vehicles, the Boxer recovery module, and the Armored Combat Support Vehicle (ACSV) G5. By successfully embedding the Tahr into the Bundeswehr’s elite units, FFG reinforces its capability to independently develop, manufacture, and sustain indigenous, high-tech systems tailored for modern asymmetrical warfare.
