Dynamit Nobel Defence welcomes the conclusion of a framework agreement with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV – Försvarets materielverk) for the delivery of the SKORPION² vehicle-mounted mine-laying system. The agreement runs through 2033 and has a total value of approximately SEK 4 billion (EUR 360 million). In addition, an initial call-off order valued at approximately SEK 900 million (EUR 82 million) has already been placed. The contract scope includes live and training ammunition, as well as training and demonstration material. With this procurement, Sweden is strengthening its capability to rapidly, flexibly and effectively deploy anti-tank mine barriers, thereby making an important contribution to both national and collective defence capabilities.
SKORPION² has been designed for integration on a variety of vehicle platforms and enables the rapid deployment of anti-tank mines in accordance with operational requirements. The system is capable of laying up to 400 mines within ten minutes, supporting the delay, channelisation and movement control of opposing mechanised forces. The SKORPION 2 discharge system uses discharge chutes that are mounted directly onto a modular container platform in 10-foot, 15-foot, or 20-foot sizes with an ISO668 twist-lock interface. The platform was implemented by the bodywork specialist SONNTAG.
SKORPION 2 enables rapid, situation-specific deployment of the artificial obstacle within minutes. SKORPION 2 automatically places the AT2+-based obstacle with adjustable shape and density. Since the system already includes a control unit with an interface to a BMS, flawless reporting is guaranteed. Under the theme of “Counter Mobility,” DND has further developed several systems. The starting point is the remotely deployed AT2 anti-tank mine, which has been improved and is now known as the AT2+. Proven parameters were retained, obsolescence was addressed, and some aspects were adapted to meet new capability requirements. The main adjustments and improvements were made to the electronics and sensors. The AT2+ now features a sensor suite comprised of a mix of different sensors.
FMV’s decision underlines the importance of modern obstacle-laying capabilities for national and allied defence in Europe. With Sweden, another European NATO member has selected SKORPION². Denmark and Latvia have already chosen the system. The use of a common capability enhances interoperability among allied armed forces and further strengthens European defence cooperation.
