Spanish heavy vehicle manufacturer URO Vehículos Especiales S.A. (UROVESA) has officially announced it will debut its latest tactical platform, the VAMTAC-AX4, at the upcoming Eurosatory 2026 defense exhibition in Paris, scheduled from June 15 to 19. Developed as a clean-sheet evolution of the company’s widely deployed light tactical vehicle family, the VAMTAC-AX4 is specifically optimized for squad transport operations under high-threat environments. The VAMTAC-AX4 features a payload capacity of 4 metric tons (4.4 short tons) and is engineered to transport up to 11 fully equipped personnel, including the driver. The vehicle integrates an advanced, scalable armor system designed to provide significantly heightened levels of ballistic, blast, and improvised explosive device (IED) protection compared to the legacy VAMTAC ST5 platform currently in service.

The AX4 architecture is built around a modular, open-system philosophy, allowing end-users to rapidly reconfigure the platform for a diverse array of mission sets. Beyond its primary role as an armored personnel carrier (APC), UROVESA confirmed that the platform can be adapted into a mobile command post, an armored ambulance, a short-range air defense (SHORAD) platform, or an electronic warfare (EW) tactical node. The open architecture ensures seamless integration of third-party command, control, communications, computers, cyber, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (C5ISR) systems required for multi-domain operations.

In terms of technical performance, the vehicle is optimized for modern infantry gear loadouts within its 4,000-kilogram payload margin while keeping troops secured inside a heavily protected crew capsule. This protection suite combines specialized modular ballistic armor with integrated anti-mine belly hull protection and dedicated IED mitigation systems. For off-road mobility, the engineering team completely revised the mechanical drivetrain and all-wheel-drive (AWD) tactical chassis, enabling the platform to overcome extreme terrain, severe slopes, and austere climatic conditions without compromising structural stability during high-speed tactical maneuvers.

UROVESA officials emphasized that despite the heavy armor and high payload, the vehicle retains agility across all operating areas by balancing crew ergonomics and comfort with rugged mechanical dependability. In addition to the premier of the VAMTAC-AX4, UROVESA will showcase an armored variant of its battle-proven VAMTAC ST5 to highlight the platform’s versatility. The ST5 line currently supports more than 60 distinct operational configurations worldwide. Both platforms will be displayed at the UROVESA static exhibit located in Hall 6, Stand F210, within the Spanish National Pavilion at Eurosatory 2026.
