The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has delivered a new batch of flatbed trucks to the Swedish Armed Forces, enhancing the service’s tactical and logistical mobility. The vehicles are based on the Volvo FMX, a proven all-wheel-drive platform already widely used within Sweden’s military transport fleet. The newly delivered trucks feature a flatbed configuration with canopy and integrated tail lift, enabling flexible transport of personnel, equipment, and palletized cargo. FMV has placed an order for 300 units under the designation FLB14 6×6 LY S VO/T, reflecting a standardized configuration tailored to operational requirements. The initial batch is designed to meet a wide range of transport needs while offering high mobility, reliability and security of supply in demanding operational environments.

According to Thomas Larsson, FMV project manager for heavy wheeled vehicles, the platform provides a versatile addition to the Armed Forces’ inventory, supporting a wide spectrum of transport missions across varying terrain and operational environments.

The FMX platform, developed by Volvo Trucks, is derived from the baseline Volvo FM series but optimized for demanding off-road and construction applications. The first-generation FMX entered service in 2010, sharing core components with the FM while incorporating reinforced structures and enhanced durability. It has been offered with 11-litre (D11) and 13-litre (D13) Euro-5 diesel engines, supporting both on-road and off-road logistics roles. A second-generation FMX was introduced in February 2020, featuring a more ruggedized design compared with the standard FM. Enhancements include reinforced steel-and-polypropylene bumpers, energy-absorbing front structures, a 3 mm skid plate, and upgraded lighting systems designed for improved durability and visibility in austere conditions.

Volvo Defense oversees the provision of military-adapted vehicles and power systems derived from Volvo’s commercial portfolio. The division specializes in delivering platforms configured for high mobility, availability, and survivability, while meeting the procurement and lifecycle support requirements of government and defense customers. The delivery underscores Sweden’s continued investment in resilient ground logistics capabilities, leveraging commercial off-the-shelf platforms adapted for military use to ensure scalability, cost efficiency, and operational flexibility.
