BAE Systems and Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace have reinforced their long-standing industrial partnership through the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aimed at expanding cooperation across both maritime and air domains. The agreement, formalised in July 2025, builds on an earlier MoU signed in May that focused on maritime opportunities. These included potential collaboration on the Vanguard vessel system, through-life support for Norway’s future frigates should the UK’s Type 26 design be selected, as well as cooperation in strike missile integration, maritime surveillance, targeting systems, and shipboard technology deliveries.

Under the July MoU, the companies are extending their cooperation into the air domain, with a particular emphasis on future combat air systems, uncrewed air platforms, advanced materials, mission support, and research and technology development. This broadens the scope of the partnership, enabling both nations’ defence industries to align more closely in addressing NATO and allied requirements. BAE Systems and Kongsberg have a proven track record of collaboration, most notably in missile technology, precision strike capabilities, and integrated ship systems. Their partnership reflects the wider UK–Norwegian defence relationship, which has long prioritised interoperability, industrial cooperation, and shared capability development in support of NATO objectives.

For Norway, which has invested heavily in modernising its naval and air capabilities, the agreement offers both industrial and operational advantages. Kongsberg executives highlighted the potential for joint development in advanced uncrewed systems and training solutions, ensuring sustained competitiveness in international markets. Both governments have expressed support for the deepened partnership, viewing it as a key pillar in strengthening bilateral defence ties. The MoU underscores a shared commitment to delivering protection and prosperity while maintaining technological edge within NATO.
