The Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ SA, Polish Armaments Group) signed a new contract with Rosomak S.A. for the supply of 12 Rosomak WEM (Wóz Ewakuacji Medycznej – Medical Evacuation Vehicle) armored personnel carriers, scheduled for delivery to the Polish Army (Wojska Lądowe) by 2028. The agreement also includes a comprehensive training package for operators and maintenance personnel. This latest procurement marks the third production batch of Rosomak-WEM vehicles. The first 37 units were delivered to the Polish Armed Forces (Siły Zbrojne Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej) between 2008 and 2011, followed by an order for 29 vehicles in 2022. Deliveries from the 2022 batch commenced in December 2024 and will continue until 2026. Once the newly contracted vehicles are delivered, the total number of Rosomak-WEMs in service will reach 78.
The Rosomak-WEM is a specialized variant of the KTO Rosomak, Poland’s licensed production version of the Finnish Patria AMV (Armoured Modular Vehicle). Built on an 8×8 wheeled chassis, the Rosomak platform offers a modular design capable of supporting multiple configurations, including infantry fighting vehicles, command posts, ambulances, and fire-support variants. Rosomak S.A., part of the Polish Armaments Group (PGZ), manufactures the vehicles at its facility in Siemianowice Śląskie. Purpose-built for battlefield medical support, the Rosomak-WEM enables the rapid evacuation of casualties under armored protection. The vehicle carries a crew of three and can transport three stretcher-bound patients and up to four seated wounded personnel.
Onboard equipment allows for immediate life-saving interventions, including stabilization of vital functions during transit to higher-level medical facilities. The WEM variant integrates a stretcher loading support system, onboard oxygen supply, and power installations for medical devices. It is also equipped with an array of medical and diagnostic equipment, advanced communications systems, and full CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear) protection. Additional features include explosion and fire suppression systems, observation instruments, and decontamination kits, ensuring operational capability in high-threat environments.
The platform maintains the amphibious capability of the baseline Rosomak, allowing for river and water obstacle crossings without prior preparation. Typically, one Rosomak-WEM is allocated per standard Rosomak-equipped company, ensuring frontline medical coverage for deployed units. The acquisition aligns with Poland’s ongoing efforts to modernize its land forces and improve battlefield medical support capabilities. With a growing number of Rosomak-WEMs entering service, the Polish Armed Forces will be better positioned to conduct casualty evacuation operations in both domestic and expeditionary missions.
