FN Herstal’s deFNder® Medium remote weapon operated station can be fitted with FN® machine guns – including FN Herstal’s exclusive fast firing (1,100 rpm) .50 Cal (12.7x99mm NATO) FN® M3R -, or 40mm high velocity (HV) automatic grenade launcher (AGL). Thanks to its modular architecture this proven remote gun turret can be adapted for a very wide range of applications such as static positions, manned or unmanned ground vehicles, and naval vessels. It is now possible to order the deFNder® Medium configured for a Northrop Grumman M230LF 30x113mm Bushmaster chain gun, or a reversible conversion kit to upgrade existing remote weapon operated station.
The deFNder® Medium equipped with the 30mm cannon is exceptionally low profile (< 80cm) and light (300 kg with gun and 50 rounds) compared to other similar systems. The larger calibre gun gives increased range (effective up to 2,000m) and greater capability against a wide range of targets such as light armoured vehicles, and many manned or unmanned aerial threats. With this new configuration, FN Herstal offers the market a unique proposition, being the only partner to qualify its RWS with FN® machine guns, 40mm AGL and M230LF for a total combat ready weight of less than 300 kg. The M230 Cannon is a 30 mm (30×113 mm), single-barrel electrically-driven autocannon, using external electrical power (as opposed to recoil or expanding gas generated by the firing cartridge) to cycle the weapon between shots. It was designed and manufactured originally by Hughes Helicopters in Culver City, California. As of 2019, it is produced by Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems. Today, it’s descendant, the M230LF (Link Fed), represents a new adaptation of medium caliber cannons for ground vehicles. The M230LF is deployed on a variety of international and U.S. military manned vehicles. Specializing in the design and manufacture of small calibre firearms and associated products based on state-of-the-art technologies, FN Herstal provides innovative solutions to its military, law enforcement and Special Forces customers.
