Colt Canada, a subsidiary of Colt CZ Group, introduced the C8A4 variant of its renowned C8 carbine at the CANSEC 2024 exhibition. The Colt Canada C7 and C8 are a Canadian family of service rifles, manufactured by Colt Canada. This new model is being considered as a potential future configuration for the Canadian Armed Forces under the Canadian Modular Assault Rifle (CMAR) project. The C8A4, an evolution of Colt Canada’s Modular Rail Rifle (MRR), incorporates the trusted internal components of the C8 carbine within an AR-15 architecture chambered in 5.56mm x 45mm NATO caliber. This new iteration features the M-Lok rail system, enhancing modularity and customization capabilities. It operates using a direct gas impingement system complemented by an enhanced gas block, ensuring reliable performance in diverse combat scenarios.

One of the standout features of the C8A4 is its robust monolithic upper casing, which includes a long STANAG 4694 rail on top and M-Lok side interfaces with five mounting slots. This design facilitates the economical attachment of various optics and accessories, ensuring improved weight distribution and operational efficiency. Additionally, the rifle is equipped with a single-stage non-adjustable combat trigger, emphasizing simplicity and reliability. Durability and longevity are key considerations in the C8A4’s design. The 295 mm cold-hammer forged chrome-lined barrel is free-floating, contributing to a longer lifespan and enhanced accuracy. The carbine’s aluminum casing is coated with a sand-colored Cerakote finish, matching the Magpul MOE grip and adjustable Magpul CTR stock, which are also in this tactical color.
