STEYR ARMS, Austria’s leading firearms manufacturer with a history dating back to 1864, is pleased to announce its successful bid in the competitive tender process to supply the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) with its advanced GL-40 grenade launcher system. This marks the successful participation in a Bundeswehr tender, and its GL-40 launcher has been chosen over strong competition from other industry leaders. The GL-40 boasts exceptional robustness and precision. Its versatility allows it to be used both as an attachment and as a stand-alone device, meeting the diverse operational needs of the Bundeswehr. The early prototypes of the GL-40 module were indeed showcased multiple times in the past years, but the model seen at the EUROSATORY 2014 defense expo appears to be the definitive, production-grade version of the design.

Developed by STEYR ARMS the STEYR GL 40 is a robust steel 40mm low and medium velocity grenade launcher for all NATO standard 40mm low-velocity ammunition (40x46mm-SR). Due to it’s design and various mounting options it can be used as an under barrel launcher for the STEYR AUG or various other assault rifle. The STEYR GL 40 is also available as a stand alone grenade launcher with an ergonomic adjustable stock. It is available either with a Steyr designed quick attach mount or a mount for picatinny rail (Mil. Std. 1913). Entirely manufactured out of metal, the GL-40 sports a milled construction, and is just slightly heavier than 1Kg. All its versions; the launcher itself is also extremely short, standing at 27 centimetres overall, and comes with a double-action-only trigger. Thanks to the safe and easy sideloading breech configuration all types of 40 mm grenades can be used.
