The Republic of China Army (RoCA) has granted the permission to produce a new 5.56 mm assault rifle called XT112. This groundbreaking weapon, developed by the Taiwanese Ministry of National Defense’s (MND’s) Armaments Bureau, marks a pivotal advancement in the country’s military arsenal. Replacing the aging T91 assault rifles currently in service, the XT112 boasts a lineage tracing back to the renowned T65 and T91 models since the XT-112 continues to use the AR piston concept.. However, this new rifle incorporates state-of-the-art technology and design enhancements to deliver superior performance and stability. Developed by the 205th Arsenal of the Armaments Bureau, located in the city of Kaohsiung, the XT112 features a redesigned methodology aimed at reducing weight and vibrations, thus enhancing its overall effectiveness.
The assault rifle offers four distinct shooting modes: safe, semi-automatic, two-round burst, and fully automatic, providing versatility in various combat scenarios. One of the standout features of the XT112 is its enhanced accuracy, thanks to a more robust barrel design compared to its predecessors. Shot groupings at a 100-meter range have been significantly improved, with the XT112 achieving 9.8 cm groupings compared to the T91’s 14.5 cm. This precision is crucial for ensuring effective engagement with targets on the battlefield. The XT112 introduces ergonomic improvements to enhance user experience. Ambidextrous controls for the selector lever, magazine release button, and cocking handle latch ensure accessibility for both left-handed and right-handed operators. Additionally, the rifle’s rail mount adheres to international standards, offering greater flexibility for attaching accessories such as grenade launchers, sights, and laser aiming modules.
The XT112 also incorporates practical features aimed at improving operational efficiency. A built-in retractable bipod facilitates low-posture shooting, while a transparent magazine casing allows for quick checks on ammunition levels, reducing the risk of jams. Furthermore, the rifle comes equipped with a steel flash suppressor featuring indentations for melee combat and wire cutting, providing added utility in diverse combat situations. The XT112 is equipped with advanced aiming technology, including the XTS112 aiming laser and XTS112 close-in fight sight. The inclusion of a laser pointer enables rapid and accurate target acquisition during day and night operations, further enhancing the rifle’s effectiveness on the battlefield. With its superior performance, enhanced features, and advanced technology, the XT112 is poised to become a cornerstone of Taiwan’s defense capabilities for years to come.
