First MUV 4×4 TCN Vehicle Officially Handed Over to Austrian Armed Forces

The Austrian Minister of Defence, Klaudia Tanner, handed over the first unit of IDV’s MUV 4×4 TCN vehicle to the Austrian Armed Forces on March 18th, 2024. This ceremony that took place in Vienna and that saw the participation of top-level decision-makers in the Austrian Armed Forces, marks an important milestone for IDV (Iveco Defence Vehicles) after having signed the first of three contracts in 2020 for a total of 185 units. IDV’s MUV 4×4 in its configuration as Radio Command Post vehicle is the chosen platform for the Austrian Armed Forces’ brand-new and innovative Communication System, known as Tactical Communication Network (TCN), handed over to the Troops during today’s ceremony in Vienna.

IDV, in collaboration with Iveco Austria and bodybuilder EMPL, will be providing the Austrian Armed Forces with a total of 185 units of MUV 4×4 TCN vehicles by the end of 2025. The official handover of the first unit of the MUV 4×4 TCN to the Troops as end-users for the contracted Radio Command Post vehicles marks a significant moment in the consolidation of the strategic collaboration between the Austrian Armed Forces and IDV, further emphasizing the company’s commitment to playing an important role in the multirole vehicle segment for a variety of defence and homeland security applications.

The MUV 4×4 is a purpose-built military vehicle, developed to be the natural successor of IDV’s work horse, the M40E15-WM, compliant with military and NATO standards, which significantly benefits also from important synergies with heavily industrialized components. Rugged and highly mobile, the MUV has been designed to meet military users’ broad spectrum of operation requirements. With a GVW of up to 7 ton, the vehicle is designed to offer a maximum payload of 4 ton. The engine is specifically designed to operate in demanding environments and can also operate with NATO fuels.

Mobility is further enhanced by a permanent 4×4 drive with central/front/rear lockable differentials and a PTO equipped transfer case as well as by an independent front suspension system with torsion bar, which ensures balanced off-road mobility, handling, and reliability. By maximising the commonality of components and manufacturing across the MUV family, the logistical footprint is reduced while, at the same time, flexibility is improved by introducing modular superstructures to enhance MUV’s suitability in various operational scenarios. ESP and ABS further enhance performance and run flat options are also available.
