The Singapore Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) has signed a contract with Fr. Fassmer GmbH & Co. KG (Fassmer) to acquire four new Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) to replace the existing Sentinel-class Maritime Security Response Vessels (MSRVs). The ships are based on a proven OPV design operated by the German Federal Police (Bundespolizei), and are designed with high manoeuvrability to operate in Singapore’s congested waters, and equipped with a suite of lethal and less-lethal capabilities to provide flexibility and calibrated response against a wide spectrum of maritime threats. The four OPVs will be delivered progressively from 2028 onwards. The MSRVs will remain in operational service until the OPVs are delivered and operationalised.

The new 86m Offshore Patrol Vessels “Potsdam” (BP81), “Bamberg” (BP82) and “Bad Düben” (BP83), three state-of-the-art new builds have successfully started their service with the German Federal Police. The three 86m long vessels each have a helicopter landing deck on which even the largest helicopter of the German Federal Police, the “Super Puma”, can take off and land. In addition, the ships offer storage options for containers with electricity and water connections, including special equipment. There are receptacles for fast emergency boats and sufficient accommodation for emergency personnel. The new vessels meet the latest emissions- and environmental standards. They are used on inspection and patrol missions on the North and Baltic Sea and support international police operations in conjunction with special forces worldwide.
