Milanion New Technologies Global Systems (NTGS) and Polaris Government & Defense have unveiled the integration of the Alakran-S 81 mm mortar system onto the Polaris MRZR Alpha 4 4×4 vehicle at the DSEI 2023 exhibition in London. The Alakran-S, where ‘S’ stands for ‘small,’ first caught the attention of the defense community when it made its debut at IDEX 2023, mounted on a commercial Polaris platform, the RZR all-terrain vehicle (ATV). These vehicles were originally equipped with gasoline engines, which posed logistical challenges due to their incompatibility with standard military JP-8 fuel. The integration of the Alakran-S mortar system onto the Polaris MRZR Alpha represents a significant advancement in addressing this issue. The Alakran ‘S’ boasts its own Fire Control System (FCS), employing GIS Technology and introducing innovative features like Zonal Shooting and Multiple Rounds. Designed for Shoot and Scoot operations, this mortar system can fire eight rounds and relocate in under two minutes.

Unlike the RZR, the MRZR Alpha is purpose-built for military applications, offering superior cross-country mobility and an increased payload capacity. These enhancements make the combination of the Alakran-S mortar system and the MRZR Alpha an attractive proposition for military customers worldwide. The system’s trial runs in the United States on Polaris’ MRZR Alpha 4 and Deployable Advanced Ground Off-road (DAGOR) military vehicles have provided invaluable insights. Experience gained during testing has led to updates in the fire-control system (FCS) software, enabling zonal firing and automating the recalibration of the mortar’s position. This ensures precision even after repeated firing from the same position, a crucial advantage for military operations.

The ALAKRAN mobile mortar system represents a combat-proven solution offering superior mobility, accuracy, speed, and firepower on the battlefield. Its automatic aiming and re-aiming functions, coupled with the ability to transmit all recoil force to the ground, provide a stable and effective platform. The patented barrel cooling system allows for sustained firing, addressing operational challenges faced by current mortar carriers. ALAKRAN’s adaptability is another standout feature. It can be seamlessly integrated onto nearly any 4×4 vehicle and is capable of navigating diverse terrains, including deserts, mud, snow, and forests. Its lightweight design even makes it heliborne-capable, expanding its deployment options and versatility.

Milanion NTGS is a promising joint venture business formed by the UK-based Milanion Technologies and the Spanish defense firm New Technologies Global Systems (NTGS). Leveraging the strengths, market leadership, expertise, and experience of both companies, Milanion NTGS is set to play a pivotal role in advancing autonomous technology systems and platforms for the defense sector. The integration of the Alakran-S mortar system onto the Polaris MRZR Alpha is a remarkable achievement that will undoubtedly bolster the capabilities of military forces worldwide. With its cutting-edge technology, adaptability, and combat-proven performance, the ALAKRAN system, through the partnership of Milanion NTGS and Polaris Government & Defense, is poised to make a lasting impact on modern warfare. As the defense industry continues to evolve, collaborations like this one serve as a testament to the industry’s commitment to innovation and excellence.
