The Brazilian Army’s recent acquisition of 20 specialized MaxxPro Recovery Vehicle – Performance (MRV-P) marks a significant milestone in the country’s defense capabilities. These state-of-the-art armored vehicles, manufactured by the renowned American company Navistar Defense, are a crucial addition to the Brazilian Army’s arsenal, enhancing its operational effectiveness and resilience on the battlefield. The MaxxPro Recovery Vehicles, with their robust 6×6 drive system, have been specifically designed to meet the demanding requirements of recovering Guarani armored vehicles under combat conditions. These vehicles offer unprecedented levels of protection, being armored against a range of threats including 5.56mm and 7.62mm weapons, artillery shrapnel, mines, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The vehicle’s capacity to tow up to 42 tonnes showcases its robustness and adaptability in various scenarios.
The acquisition process, initiated in 2018, reflects the meticulous planning and careful consideration of operational requirements by the Brazilian Army. The Armored Forces Program, under which these vehicles were procured, is a vital part of the Land Force Strategic Portfolio. This program is geared toward modernizing the Brazilian Army’s armored and mechanized units, fostering research, development, and innovation within the country’s defense and security sector. Upon delivery, the fleet of MaxxPro Recovery Vehicles will be entrusted to the capable hands of the Logistics Section of the Command of the 5th Army Division in Curitiba. The 27th Logistic Battalion and the 5th Logistic Battalion will operate these vehicles, ensuring their efficient deployment and maintenance. These vehicles will be temporarily stationed at the Regional Maintenance Park before being distributed to various organizations within the Brazilian Army.
The MaxxPro Recovery Vehicle – Performance (MRV-P) has proven its mettle in various operational contexts, including the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Army programs, where it demonstrated its effectiveness in countering threats such as IEDs and ambushes. The vehicle’s V-shaped hull design, mounted on an International 7000 chassis, has shown exceptional capability in deflecting blasts from land mines and IEDs, safeguarding the lives of its occupants. The International M1224 MaxxPro MRAP (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected) is an armored fighting vehicle designed by American company Navistar International’s subsidiary Navistar Defense along with the Israeli Plasan Sasa, who designed and manufactures the vehicle’s armor. The acquisition of the MaxxPro Recovery Vehicles represents a significant step forward in bolstering the Brazilian Army’s readiness and capabilities. This investment underscores the Brazilian Armed Forces commitment to ensuring the safety and effectiveness of our armed forces while modernizing defense infrastructure.
