After six years of development using internal Research and Development funding, Spanish defense company Escribano Mechanical & Engineering (EM&E) expects its Alkon nose-mounted fuze guidance kit (FGK) to undergo qualification tests in 2023. ALKON (Fuze Guidance Kit) is a guidance system with GPS sensor, GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) and Inertial Navigation System (INS) entirely designed, developed and manufactured by ESCRIBANO M&E. ALKON allows the upgrading of artillery rockets of 70mm up to 300mm and artillery projectiles up to 155mm, replacing the traditional fuze for a course correction fuze and achieving a dispersion radius inferior to 20m.
ALKON, thanks to its control and guidance system, algorithm development, impact prediction device and navigation sensors improves significantly the launching effective accuracy. (CEP less than 20m for ranges over 40km), reducing the number of launches required to hit a target, further minimizing collateral damage. Some funding has also been provided by the Spanish Army for the specific integration and customisation of the FGK for 155mm Extended Range (ER) projectiles deployed by the Spanish Army. The company have completed well over 300 successful tests of the Alkon FGK and expect this to be qualified by mid-2023’.
