Ukroboronprom State Corporation has announced that it will repair captured Russian tanks, armored vehicles and hand them over the Ukrainian Army for use against the Russians. An unspeified number of Russian ground vehicles have been destoryed or captured by Ukrainian forces. Some reports put their number at 500 destroyed or captured. Ukrainian Soldiers reportedly captured hundreds of Russian combat vehicles, including T-90 main battle tanks, 2S19 Msta-S self-propelled howitzers, Lynx and Typhoon armoured vehicles. It helps that the Ukrainian Army is largely equipped with Soviet origin armored vehices and tanks such as the T-72 and T-80 main battle tanks.
The repair and transfer of captured Russian land equipment had already been agreed upon by the Ukrainian General Staff, a Ukroboronprom statement said March 1. Ukroboronprom (UOP) is an association of multi-product enterprises (conglomerate or concern) in various sectors of the defense industry of Ukraine. The Concern includes enterprises which operate in development, manufacture, sale, repair, modernization and disposal of weapons, military and special equipment and ammunition, and participating in military-technical cooperation with foreign states. Ukroboronprom has made it a business out of repairing Soviet origin equipment for international customers.
